Nick Kelsh is a renowned photographer and author of nine books, including the bestselling Naked Babies and Siblings (co-authored with Pulitzer Prizewinning writer, Anna Quindlen) and three how-to books for amateurs, How to Photograph Your Baby, How to Photograph Your Family and How to Photograph Your Life. He illustrated a new edition of Rachel Carson’s classic The Sense of Wonder, and wrote and photographed two gift books: How to be Santa Claus and How to be Dad. He wrote the column Great Shots for Creative Memories’ Lasting Moments magazine. He has appeared twice on Oprah and three times on The Today Show, as well as being featured on many local TV and radio shows and numerous national newspaper and magazines including Time, Life, Newsweek, National Geographic, The New Yorker, Forbes, Fortune and Business Week.
Born in Fargo, North Dakota, Nick earned his degree from University of Missouri’s School of Journalism and worked for several newspapers including the Philadelphia Inquirer. In 1986 he co-founded Kelsh Wilson Design, which specializes in the design of and photography for annual reports, university viewbooks, and other corporate and school publications.
Nick’s photography has earned numerous awards. He was consistently invited, as one of the world’s top 100 photographers, to contribute to the prestigious A Day in the Life series and his photos were featured on the cover of several of these books, including A Day in the Life of China and A Day in the Life of Thailand. His work has appeared in most major national publications, including Time, Life, Newsweek, National Geographic, The New Yorker, Forbes, Fortune and Business Week and Nick has worked as a spokesman for such companies as Kimberly-Clark, Microsoft, Olympus, and Lindeman’s Wine.
In May of 2010 Nick produced a DVD version of How to Photograph Your Baby and started a Facebook page by the same name, which has grown to a following of over 30,000 fans. He subsequently produced a two-volume DVD set called Nick Kelsh’s Photo Tips for Scrapbookers and Other Family Photographers and has made numerous appearances at events sponsored by scrapbooking company Creative Memories. Nick’s entertaining, and sometimes philosophical, style of presenting photo tips and techniques have earned him the role of “photo guru” to many thousands of scrapbookers, “photo-moms” and camera-wielding grandmas, as well as to advanced amateur photographers seeking to gain the expertise and confidence to transition to paid photography jobs. In January, 2012, Nick left Kelsh Wilson Design to dedicate himself to teaching, critiquing, inspiring and celebrating these amateur and advanced amateur photographers through his newly launched website, www.HowToPhotographYourLife.com and Nick Kelsh’s Photo Tips daily email subscription.
Nick lives in Philadelphia with his wife, Anne and is the father of three sons—Chaz, Alexander and Teddy.
