Here’s part one of a four seasons video series I’m doing for The Morris Arboretum which we’re lucky enought to have in our neighborhood. It’s always so gratifying to donate time to the organizations you love, even if you completely don’t have time for it and you’re insane to have even come up with the idea in the first place. Trust me, you’ll be happy you did it.

Almost every organization you’re a member of could use a volunteer photographer. Websites and newsletters have an insatiable appetite for fresh photography and you could supply it as a form of community service.

Most kids perk up when you ask them if they like ice cream. Pizza works, too. Some react when you ask them if they like to eat worms. Boys think it’s funny if you put your finger in your nose. Almost all of them find it bizarrely interesting when a bald guy hits himself on the top of the head and makes Three Stooges noises.

Garrison Keilor said that you can solve every gift giving problem you will ever have in a good bookstore so imagine the gift giving potential of passing through your world with a camera around your neck.
