Here are words that should perk up the ears of every committed landscape photographer. Tomorrow’s forecast, early-morning fog with clearing. The problem is you need to get out of bed and Connie clearly did. It may not have been easy but she has no regrets now. Look at the payoff. And almost as good as the photograph was the just being there. Soaking it in, burning this into your brain. Some of my most pleasant photography memories are of chasing incredible weather.

I may have gone to prom with this girl’s mother. (Actually, I think I’m misremembering—I WANTED to go to prom with this girl’s mother. Wait a minute—that’s Sarah. Sarah, what are you doing prom night?) In any case, that is one beautifully aggressive kiss accepted with the perfect degree of joy and mind-numbing shock. He’s not resisting, though; you can see his hand on her back if you look carefully. You could hire two Hollywood kid actors and NEVER re-create the scene. And let’s not ignore the masterful composition that throws all of the weight in his direction. All….

I’ve always felt that if you want to get a great photograph of the athlete in your life, your very best chance is going to a little photo session off the field. This is a wonderful example of that. Look at those eyes! Somebody give me a ball, I think I’ve still got the arm!Seriously, notice how Sue has drawn you into his world of baseball by filling the frame with him, waiting for his sign, and letting you wonder about his throw to second.
