#9 – Tom Reese
Tom always seems to describe his photographs better than I do. 🙂 I really love this one, Tom. I couldn’t let it slip by. Here are Tom’s words:
“This photo is the ‘gem’ from our trip to Yellowstone National Park last week. I knew as I was taking it that this shot made the trip even more awesome than the experience of just being there.
The people are looking at the Grand Prismatic Spring, which is that incredible blue surrounded by yellows and oranges which you have seen in post card photos (that shot is available only using a drone, which is prohibited). Only you couldn’t see any of it from the boardwalk this day; the steam was drifting towards the viewing area so all you could see was fog. But people were taking photographs anyway.
I saw this scene from the distance as I was approaching from the Excelsior geyser. What amazing shapes the people made against the rising steam! I shot this at 280 mm (my new Sony 70-200 f/2.8 lens with my new Sony 1.4 times teleconverter), at ISO 200, f/8.0, and 1/1250 second shutter speed.
I shot about a dozen photos. Sometimes I had to wait, when there were too many people so there was not good separation between the individuals. I was just thinking this was so much fun with this spectacular view. I think I was almost laughing as I shot, and I noticed one guy from an oriental group photographing me as I was enjoying this so much! I have been waiting to get home so I could develop this shot.”
