The Top 50 Fan Photos of 2018

#1 – Bob Rear‎

I could be wrong, but I think many of Bob’s beautiful bird photographs that have appeared here recently are taken from the comfort of a chair inside his house looking out the window. It just goes to show, you don’t need to build a bird blind in the middle of the forrest to shoot great bird photography. And you never know what’s going to happen when shutter speeds meet wing beats. The shutter speed used to take this photograph is probably longer than many of us would feel comfortable with. The gorgeous painterly effect of the individual feathers is enhanced by cardinal red in front of a green background. Pictures like this happen when someone is willing to push the button. You just never know what you’re going to get. Yes, a sense of fun is required for this, but also a deep sense of curiosity. Beautiful photograph.

Update: When the Kelsh family was weighing in on their favorite Fan Photos of the year this picture received 3 out of 4 votes for the #1 spot. It really hit a nerve at my house. Congratulations, Bob!
