Sometimes it’s several things that come together to make a picture—or anything else—work.
The out-of-focus background is beautiful. That’s the result of a telephoto lens and a large aperture.
The monarch is placed off-center making for a better composition.
It’s frozen in space and it’s perfectly sharp. It just pops. A little bit off and it wouldn’t be the same photo. (This was the tricky part for Wanda.)
It’s really a great photo of a subject that’s been posted here thousands of times. (And hopefully, thousands more.)
